Melton was the first to pioneer “through-trailer service” into Mexico in 1980, which eliminated cargo damages and
greatly decreased the amount of time spent at border crossings. This innovative service has contributed greatly
to the importing and exporting success of Melton’s customers. Additionally, Melton has built a “Cargo Protection
Facility” (CPF) at their Laredo terminal. The CPF provides a protected environment against moisture for
weather-sensitive cargo awaiting further transport.Melton is the only U.S.-based flatbed carrier to provide
this service.
"Since Melton relocated to Tulsa in 1991, we have prospered and grown from a fleet size of less than 200 to our
current size of 950 trucks, 1,700 trailers, and 1,100 employees and contractors. International movement of freight
has fueled much of that growth. Since the time Melton pioneered through-trailer service into Mexico in 1980, we
have spent significant energy and resources to increase freight volumes through our facilities along the U.S./Mexico
border. In addition, we have developed strong relationships with Mexican shippers and manufacturers as well as a
core group of Mexican carriers. Melton Truck Lines is honored to receive this prestigious award from the
Oklahoma District Export Council and Secretary Shirley," says Bob Peterson, President of Melton Truck Lines.
